Mercy Care Ethiopia is a non–governmental Ethiopian Residents Charity organization established with a passion to contribute to the medical need of the population in Ethiopia. It was established in 1998 by drawing a vast group of people from USA and around the world.
It was Prof. Badeg Bekele who was the initial visionary for the development of this project. Passionately, he gave the leadership to construct the current facility of the center and used his influence to attract so many professionals to the clinic. Above and beyond what was required for the health center, Prof.Badeg pursued to scale the service of the clinic to include one of the best surgical Eye clinic and dental units within the compound.
The project not only give the service to Kechene population, but included the development of three additional health posts in different parts of the city of Addis Ababa. Since its establishment, Mercy Care Ethiopia was able to cater medical services for over a million patients from Addis Ababa and around the country.
Mercy Care Ethiopia prides itself by what is taking place through the highly committed professionals who continues to restore vision and prevented loss of sight for thousands of people. Its TB diagnosis and treatment, dental care, family planning services, HIV prevention and control activities are all in the line with the standards by the Federal health Ministry of Ethiopia, if not above.
Mercy Care Ethiopia has 50 health professionals and 35 supportive staffs. Besides the medical engagements, Mercy Care Ethiopia has successfully developed four water springs in Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples’ Region. Despite its previous successes, Mercy Care Ethiopia always craves to provide better services to its patients in the years and decades to come.
